This weekend was a good one – any weekend that includes both family and friends is a winner in my book!
My mom and stepdad texted earlier this week asking if we were available to help them build this gazebo they bought last week from Costco, so we drove down to their house on Friday night in an effort to start early and beat the heat (we would later learn that would be a losing battle!). We all got up around 7:30, enjoyed a breakfast of muffins, bagels, and cinnamon rolls from Western Bagels, and started the construction by 9.
still more hours later…in 97 degree heat…
After a pretty solid 8 hours of work other than a break for lunch, it was time for me to get ready to go out to dinner with two of my best friends from high school. Thankfully for the team, I left behind Winston to supervise…
Since I was an hour and a half closer to Los Angeles than usual, it worked out perfectly that both Gillian and Heather were free to meet up for dinner! Gillian just moved from Downtown LA to Santa Monica last week and Heather lives in Brentwood, so I offered to drive out their way to meet up. We ended up having dinner at Milo and Olive at Heather’s suggestion, which was both delicious and just a few blocks from Gillian’s new apartment! I don’t think the three of us stopped talking for a moment from the minute we met up at Gillian’s until we left to go home almost three and a half hours later. It was so great to get together with both of them, but of course we made the huge fail of not taking a single picture! I guess that’s what happens when you don’t stop chatting long enough to even look at your phone 😉
Speaking of, my mom sent me this picture right before dinner:
The guys finally called it a day around 8:30 or 9 at night. All of the pieces are assembled, but the roof needs to be put on the frame still and that was going to take more than the four of us.
Adrian had work on Sunday, but we woke up with a little more than an hour to spare before we had to head out, so we decided to get in a short run in the hills behind my parents’ house.
We got in 2 miles before it was time to jump in the shower and get on the road. Not only was it a wonderful start to the day, but I got to try my mom’s Nathan Intensity Hydration Backpack – I’ve been eyeing it online for almost a year now and I loved it just as much as I thought I would; it’s definitely on my wish list now.
Then it was home for a long day of grading because progress report grades were due today.
Sanity break (from my Snapchat):
And, finally, dinner break:
I also took a short break around 9 to do a 15min kettle bell workout and shower. I finally finished up grading around 11:15pm and crashed into bed after a busy weekend and before my weekday 5:00 wake up call!
What did you do this weekend?
Anyone else tackle a house-related project?
